Australian Rules Football in Aarhus since 1997
From a group of mates kicking a footy in the park to a club competing across Europe.
How it started
Origins

Aarhus has been home to Australian Rules Football since 1997. The Bombers took part in the 1997 Danish Australian Football Premiere League and played every season until 2004.
From 2005 the activity in the club was mostly local until they ultimately threw in the towel after the 2010 season.
Revival

In 2018 the first steps towards the resurrection of Aarhus Australian Football Club were taken in the form of the DAFL X Division West, a reference to the immensely unpopular AFL X format, complete with supergoals and all.
The DAFL X format consisted of three seperate teams from Odense and one from Aarhus, and while the bombers ended in the bottom of the ladder, Aarhus was once again ready for footy.
The modern Aarhus Bombers

In late 2019 Aarhus was fully ressurected by Scott Walsh, later multiple times DAFL best and fairest winner, and Kaspar Bruus Bjerre, previously captain of the Odense Lions, who had both recently moved to the city from Melbourne and Odense respectively.
The two proved to be what the club needed and in the following years, with Scott Walsh as head coach, the club grew and established itself in the DAFL.
Mergers and premierships

In the period between 2022 and 2024, Aarhus competed alongside Aalborg and Odense as VEST Denmark, a merger that proved succesful enough to give both Odense and Aarhus their first Premiership wins ever.
Aarhus Australian Football will participate in the 2026 DAFL Premier League alongside Aalborg Kangaroos under the Jutland Shinboners moniker for the second year in a row.
